Comfort routes

Fewer turns, fewer stops, smoother streets

A Comfort route is the one you would choose yourself if you knew the city perfectly: a little longer than the fastest way, with far fewer moments where you have to brake, think or bounce.

What Comfort trades

  • Turns. Long straight corridors instead of a zigzag through side streets.
  • Traffic lights and crossings. Fewer signals, fewer unsignalised crossings of main roads, fewer indirect left turns.
  • Surface. Asphalt over cobblestones, smooth over uneven, known over unknown.
  • Climbing. A gentler profile when one exists, with steep ramps weighted more than gradual rises.
  • Traffic stress. A quiet street or a cycle track over a main road without infrastructure, where the detour allows.

What it never trades

Comfort is a preference. Hard avoids are rules. If you have excluded cobblestones, stairs, pushing, unpaved ground, main roads without cycle infrastructure or paths through parks, no amount of comfort elsewhere buys them back. When a rule blocks every route, the app names the rule and lets you allow it for this one trip, or not.

The price is always shown

Every Comfort route states how much longer and slower it is than Fast, and what you get for it. By default it may be up to 20 percent longer and five minutes slower. A calmer route beyond that budget appears as a separate option, never preselected.

Your preferences, in bounded steps

Four switches tune Comfort without sliders. Each one doubles the weight of its group. The result is still a Comfort route within your budget.

Fewer turns

Hold long straight corridors even when a side street is a touch shorter.

Less climbing

Prefer the flatter of two otherwise similar routes.

Smoother surfaces

Weigh cobblestones and rough paving twice as heavily.

Avoid dark stretches

Give Comfort the Night route's preference for lit streets, at any hour.
